FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
8TH JULY 2006
SPiT LiKE THiS SUED BY JACK DANiELS (USA)
(Surrey, UK) SPiT LiKE THiS
are being sued by drinks giant Jack Daniels
(USA) over one of the T-shirts from their notorious SMELL
YOUR MUM merchandise range.
The parody shirt depicts the famous Jack Daniels label with
subtle alterations. The words "Jack Daniels"
were replaced with "Smell Your Mum"; "Tennessee
Whisky" was replaced with "Offensive Clothing"
and "Old No 7" with the Smell Your Mum logo - a raised middle
finger!
This
is the second time the band has been in trouble over one of
their designs. Clothing giant NiKE threatened to
sue after the release of their "Chav...Just Kill It!"
design.
LORD ZiON, singer with SPiT LiKE THiS and designer of the shirt says:
"It is pathetic and typical of big corporations. We are obviously
way too Rock 'n' Roll for Jack Daniels, which is ironic when you consider how many rock bands have half drowned in the stuff.
It is also typically hypocritical of big business. Tell me, in the big scheme of things, who is the bigger criminal?
The rock band that prints up a few parody t-shirts to help pay for more studio time or the huge corporation that makes intoxicating liquor and is responsible for contributing to the deaths of tens of thousands of people each year?!"
In tribute to this sham, SPiT LiKE THiS have made available for
free download a song they recently recorded called "Coming
After You" - a song about the tales of a rock star wannabe who is constantly chasing the next big drug hit. You can download
from their
website at www.spitlikethis.com
The T-Shirt has since been withdrawn from sale and the next SPiT
LiKE THiS performance is at BAR MONSTA (formerly the
G Lounge), Camden, London on Friday 14th July.
